GUWAHATI: With 10 more COVID deaths in last 24 hours, Assam reported 1,879 new COVID cases on Monday, reaching a cumulative figure of 92,619 reported cases. 28,670 tests were conducted in last 24 hours.
With 2190 patients discharged, Assam’s positivity rate stands at 6.55%.
Of the new cases, 471 are from Kamrup (M), 143 from Dibrugarh, 138 from Jorhat and 133 from Cachar.
State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma updated in his twitter handle, he wrote “Alert ~ 1879 #COVID cases detected today out of 28670 tests done in last 24 hours.

The health minister also tweeted on slowing down of doubling time of positive cases. Earlier, it took 69 days to reach total cases of 2835 since the 1st case of COVID-19 was reported in the state. The figures doubled in 14 days span and now the doubling time has slowed down to 20 days.
Taking cognizance of the surging trend of COVID-19 positive cases in the Cachar district, the district disaster management authority, has decided to impose lockdown with effect from 5 AM of August 27. The order shall remain in force up till 12 AM (mid night) of September 4.
According to the order, all the shops and establishments except pharmacies will remain shut down in urban areas of Silchar, Lakhipur town, Sonai Town, Kotigorah Bazaar, Kalain Bazaar, Banskandi Bazar, Dholai Bazaar and Borkhola Bazaar.
The restrictions do not apply to essential service providers like hospitals, labs, diagnostic centers and other such COVID related duties.
