COVID-19: Assamese young mother offers to breastfeed newborns
GUWAHATI: As Covid 19 pandemic wracking havoc across the country and leaving many newborn babies without their mothers being hospitalized or dead, an Assamese young mother- Ronita Krishna Sharma- has decided to offer her breast milk for new-borns.
Ronita who herself became a mother to a girl child in March and a resident of Mumbai had come to Guwahati to deliver her baby and stayed back after Covid 19 situation in Mumbai worsened.
She said that the idea of breastfeeding newborn babies came to her mind after she came across on social media that many were need for mother’s milk for the newborn after the mothers were either being hospitalized or died in the pandemic.
Taking to her social media account, Ronita said, “Only for Guwahati as I live here. If any newborn needs breast milk I’m here to help. This is the least I can do at this time.”
According to her, she initiated the endeavor for over a week now and ready to wet-nurse as she has been nursing her two-month-old daughter.
“Hope I can encourage more and more nursing mothers!” she said.
She too had tested positive in Mumbai when she was three months pregnant.
