GUWAHATI: Assam’s COVID-19 tally rose to 1,61,393 on Tuesday as 2,073 more people tested positive for the infection, taking the death toll to a high of 586.
Out of the new cases, 344 were reported from Kamrup (M), 168 from Dibrugarh, 166 from Jorhat and 156 from Golaghat among others.
The new cases were detected out of 29,647 tests conducted all over the state on Tuesday.
State registered eight more deaths, taking the COVID-19 fatality tally to 586.
Of the eight deaths, two deaths were reported from Kamrup(M), and once each from Dibrugarh, darrang, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Jorhat and Cachar district.
Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma twitted about the deaths saying, “Very sad and anguished to inform that 08 more COVID positive patients have succumbed to the disease.
My condolences to all the families. We stand by you in this hour of grief.”
Meanwhile, 1,817 patients were discharged from various hospitals and COVID care centres across the state on Tuesday.
According to date released by government, 1,61,393 COVID cases have been reported in the state. Out of which, 1,30,947 patients have recovered, while 586 succumbed to the disease and three have migrated to other states.
The total number of active cases in the state now stands at 29,857.
