Guwahati: Assam is all set to come up with the production of at least 80k Remdesivir vials every week to ramp up the vaccination process in the state, informed state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,
Pharmaceutical company Sun Pharma will produce the Remdesivir vials at its Palashbari unit in Assam. Health minister Sarma on Sunday paid a visit to the unit to review the production.
Taking to Twitter, Sarma wrote, “In what shall give comfort to all, pleased to share that I visited @SunPharma_Live plant Palasbari, which has a capacity of 80K #Remdesivir vials production per week. Requested them to speed up production & rollout. They would support Assam as well.”
Speaking to the media, the health minister said, “I hope the crisis will be over in the next 10-15 days. Since the Remdesivir vials will be produced at Palashbari, so we will get an adequate number of vials.”
He also stated that the company would provide 10 thousand vials to the Assam government.
The move is a part of the interim allocation of Remdesivir for 19 states and Union Territories up to April 30 by the Health Ministry and the Department of Pharmaceuticals.
“Keeping in mind the sudden surge in demand in the country for remdesivir injection required for COVID-19 therapy, the manufacturing capacity of domestic remdesivir manufacturers has been ramped up,” the center said.
