    COVID-19 vaccine to be free in Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma

    Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that COVID-19 vaccine would be distributed free in the state.

    Guwahati: Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that COVID-19 vaccine would be distributed free in the state.

    The minister also said that the government of India has already decided to distribute the vaccine free of cost.

    So far, Assam recorded 2,03,282 COVID cases. On Thursday, 508 new cases were detected in the state.

    The COVID death toll went up to 896 after seven more people succumbed to the disease on Thursday.

    Of the new cases, two were reported from Golaghat and one each from Kamurup Metropolitan, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Jorhat and Sonitpur among others.

    Assam conducted 34,375 tests during the day, while the positivity rate is 1.48%

    Assam has now 24,724 active cases, and three have migrated to other states.
