GUWAHATI: Assam recorded 2,560 new COVID-19 cases out of 40,102 tests done in last 24 hours on Friday. With 21,771 active cases, the cumulative figure reached 1,01367.

Assam becomes the first state in Northeast to cross the 1 lakh mark.

Out of the new cases, 562 are from Kamrup (M), 167 from Cachar, 139 from Dibrugarh and 135 from Hailakandi among others.

Meanwhile, 1,763 COVID patients were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries in Assam to 81,070. The positivity rate stands at 6.38%.

However, eight people succumbed to the disease, taking the death toll to 286.
