COVID 2.0: MoS Pijush Hazarika visits under construction Oxygen plant in Bhutan

On its completion, Bhutan will be able to provide Assam with 50 MT of oxygen per day: MoS Pijush Hazarika

Guwahati: As directed by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Minister of State Health, Pijush Hazarika along with MP RS Biswajit Doimari visited the under-construction Oxygen plant located at Samdrup Jangkhar, Bhutan on Sunday.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Pijush Hazarika said, “In these challenging Pandemic times this plant is believed to be of immense help in winning the fight against COVID 19. On its completion, it will be able to provide Assam with 50 MT of oxygen per day.”

Earlier, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the state may reach out to Bhutan in case of need of oxygen in an emergency situation following a cabinet decision.

Sarma also mentioned that Assam has already installed eight oxygen generating plants (5.25 MT /day) after the Covid crisis hit last year and has a plan to set up 15 more in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the Assam government has been planning to set up at least 15 mini oxygen generating plants in the state to meet any emergency situation owing to the Covid19 outbreak.

The announcement came at a time when the supply of oxygen has been found to be insufficient in hospitals across several states in the country. Covid patients have been reportedly died in hospitals due to the shortage of oxygen supply.

The state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma discussed the matter with the officials of the public works department (PWD), hospital authorities and health officials of the state.
