Guwahati: The second wave of Covid 19 has wreaked havoc in the entire Barak Valley! as at least five individuals have succumbed to the COVID 19 infection at Silchar Medical College Hospital in the last 24 hours.
The positivity rate in the region is also showing an increase in trend compared to other districts of Assam.
Speaking to the media, Vice Principal, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta (SMCH) said, “Currently, there are 160 active patients undergoing treatment at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Out of them, 37 are in ICU and 10 under ventilation. 40 patients are on oxygen support. Today, 17 patients took admission to the COVID ward of SMCH while seven of got discharged.”
Notably, one 71-year-old Shekar Chandra Das of Banamali Road, in Karimganj was declared dead on Thursday at 8:00 pm. He admitted to the SMCH on May 6.
Another 50-year-old Mridul Kanti Roy of Link Road in Silchar succumbed to COVID at around 9 pm on the same day. He was reportedly admitted to the hospital on May 3.
69-year-old Sukh Sagar Dutta was also declared dead today at 7:30 am. He was admitted to the hospital on Thursday.
Debi Kanungo, a 70-year-old Silchar resident was also declared dead today at 1:35 pm.
Tragically, at around 5:50 pm, the doctors at the COVID ward in SMCH declared one Prabash Chakraborty, a resident of Ganganagar in Cachar dead due to COVID 19 infection.
It may also be mentioned that the state of Assam on Thursday has recorded 4,936 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the active cases count to 31,829. The positivity rate is 8.04%.
A total of 46 people have succumbed to COVID-19 fatalities taking the death count to 1,531 with a death rate of 0.55%.
The overall caseload of the state has touched 2,77,687.
