Guwahati: The Guwahati city-based cab drivers on Monday threatened to commit suicide, if not provided help by the Assam Government amid the COVID-19 crisis in the state.

They urged upon the Government of Assam for an immediate arrangement of financial assistance in order to feed their family members during this crisis situation.

The drivers also appealed for car loan deferment due to the COVID crisis and also arrange for exemption in case of renewal of the car documents.

On Monday, several CAB drivers under the banner of All India Road Transport Workers Federation staged a protest along with their family members holding placards at their respective homes and sought relief from the state Government.

It is noteworthy to mention that last year during the nationwide lockdown, the cab drivers in Assam had demanded special packages from the state Government.

However, no such reimbursement or effort has been made yet from the government side, claimed the All Assam Cab Operators Union.

Furthermore, in the midst of the destructive Covid situation in state, the body demanded to regulate the petrol and diesel prices and also the prices of essential food items.

They also demanded to ensure the safety of the lives of all commercial vehicle drivers and their families.
