COVID patients to be released in 5 days if asymptomatic; new SOP in Assam

Guwahati: The Assam government on Tuesday has released a set of modified guidelines for the COVID positive patients either admitted to hospitals or in home isolation.

According to the new SOP, COVID positive patients admitted in Covid Care Centres and Covid Hospitals shall be discharged after five days of hospitalisation provided the patient is asymptomatic for three consecutive days.

Moreover, no RAT/RTPCR test is required at the time of discharge. However, in case of symptomatic patients, decision for discharge shall be taken by treating doctor based on the clinical condition of the patient.

After the discharge from the hospital, the patients will have to undergo two more days of strict home isolation with self-health monitoring.

Meanwhile, asymptomatic patients in home isolation shall be considered as discharged on the 7th day.

The patients who stands discharged as per home isolation guidelines need not get tested at the time of discharge.

The guidelines shall come into force with immediate effect and may be modified on the basis of evolving nature of COVID-19 pandemic.

The notification from the government also mentions that other instructions given in the earlier notification shall remain unchanged until further orders.
