COVID Scare: Assam Shuts Down all National Parks, Sanctuaries for visitors
GUWAHATI: In view of the spread of COVID-19 in Assam, and possibilities of spread of the virus amongst animals and also the transmission of the virus from human to animal and vice versa, all the National Parks and Sanctuaries of the state are notified closed to visitors with immediate effect until further order.
Earlier, National Parks in the state had made COVID negative report or test of all the visitors mandatory. Subsequently, the Kaziranga National Park (KNP) has also suspended the elephant rides for the entire season owing to the COVID situation.
Assam has recorded the highest single-day spike in COVID-19 related deaths on Sunday with 30 fatalities, while 2,385 fresh cases pushed the tally in the state to 2,58,961.
The 30 deaths reported during the day include 12 from Kamrup (M), four from Barpeta, three from Udalguri, two each from Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh and Sonitpur and one each from Goalpara, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup and Tinsukia.
Assam’s positivity rate has also jumped to 10.01%.
