COVID Scare: Over 50% in Assam has received first shot of vaccine

Guwahati: Over 50 percent of the eligible population in Assam has been inoculated, informed Assam health minister Keshab Mahanta on Tuesday.

On the other hand, around 11 per cent of the eligible population in the state has been inoculated so far with both the doses.

“As on date, 1.18 crore people have received their first dose of vaccine, while 25.21 lakh have taken their second dose also,” he said while issuing the fresh standard operating procedure (SOP).

He also assured that the state has adequate stock of vaccines.

The minister informed that of the 3.50 crore projected population of the state, about 2.37 crore are above 18 years of age, making them eligible for the vaccine.

Currently, the state has a positivity rate of less than 1 percent.

“The COVID19 situation has improved in Assam because of the joint efforts of public, government, admin and health dept. Relaxation has been given in curfew time by an hour and inter-district movement of private vehicles resumed in the state, except to and from Kamrup (M) w.e.f. Aug 18,” he tweeted.
