Guwahati: The Serum Institute of India (SII) has planned to launch the Novovax COVID-19 vaccine for children in India in six months.

Reportedly, SII is conducting phase II/III clinical trial of nanoparticle Vaccine (Liquid) (COVOVAX) in 920 subjects of >2 to 7 years age group.

In a virtual conference, SII CEO Adar Poonawalla said that the Novovax shot, which is the world’s largest producer of vaccines cells called Covovax, has shown good results in trails in children aged three and older.

Ponawalla further said that current global vaccine supply was far bigger than what many countries could consume despite them inoculating only a fraction of their population, many due to infrastructure shortage.

Recently, an expert panel of Central Drug Authority reviewed SII’s application seeking emergency authorisation of COVID-19 vaccine Covovax.
