Mizoram Govt likely to issue new guidelines on Omicron Covid variant
There has been no fresh Covid19 case in the State in the last couple of days

GUWAHATI: The scenic Sonapur area under the Kamrup (metro) district has become a headache for the administration as the area located just outside the city has registered the highest infection rate in the city.

As per the official figures, an infection rate of 7.47 % has been registered in the Sonapur area.

Expressing concern over the surge in Covid 19 cases in the area, metro district deputy commissioner (DC) Biswajit Pegu has asked the health department to launch an extensive Covid testing drive in the area.

Since the area has tea gardens too, the DC has asked to establish a ‘help desk’ to accelerate the vaccination drive amongst the villagers and garden workers.

“Since a study has found that in Guwahati highest numbers of Covid patients who died were above 60 years of age, it’s decided that all Covid patients above 50 years will have to undergo institutional quarantine mandatorily. Also, tests are made mandatory of those who came in contact with a Covid patient,” said the metro district administration.

On Thursday, the state registered 5704 new cases of Covid out of 119441 tests done with a positivity rate of 4.78%.  Kamrup(M) recorded 569 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. At least 83 died on Thursday.
