Guwahati: Passenger train service will continue to remain canceled until further advice owing to COVID 19 situations across the country.
However, running of Shramik Special trains which started from May 1, Rajdhani Special trains which started on May 12 and other passenger special trains which started from June 1 for the movement of the stranded and other people will continue.
Subhanan Chanda, Chief Public Relations Officer (NFR) said, “In continuation of the measures taken in the wake of COVID-19, it has been further decided that all regular passenger train services on Indian Railways including Premium trains, Mail/Express trains, Passenger trains services, Narrow gauge trains, etc will remain canceled until further advice. Accordingly, all regular passenger carrying trains originating from and coming towards the NF Railway will also remain canceled.”
He added that the railways have been monitoring the occupancy of the special trains on regular basis.
In NFR area two Rajdhani Special trains and six other passenger special trains have been presently under operation connecting cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Amritsar and Kolkata to cater to the requirement of people who are in need of urgent travel.
Additional special trains may be run based on the requirement, he added.
Besides, to ensure uninterrupted supplies of the essential commodities, movement of freight, parcel and POL carrying trains will continue.
