Guwahati: In an attempt to create awareness and taking its service to the society to another level during the Covid 19 pandemic times, over 60 Assam Police personnel have donated their plasma on Saturday.
Assam police director-general Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that the state police personnel have come out to join the drive following an appeal of the state chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
“Responding to the heartfelt appeal of the chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, at least 67 Assam police personnel, who were symptomatic and have been cured, donated the plasma today, in consultation with the health department,” the DGP said.
Till 31 July, at least 1552 police personnel have tested positive out of whom 1086 have recovered. At least 279 have rejoined duty.
So far state police have lost four of its front liners.
Sonowal thanked the state police and said, “A great response that will encourage others to come forward and do their bit for humanity. I commend the courageous and selfless corona warriors of Assam Police, whose service go much beyond the call of duty. They are our heroes.”
Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma felicitated all the plasma donors and tweeted: “The Khaki stands for sacrifice & compassion! True to the spirit, 67 recovered police personnel came forwards to donate their #plasma. So very proud to have felicitated them in presence of our frontline #COVID19 warriors from @assampolice, showing exemplary compassion has stepped forward in donating #plasma. We salute their noble gesture towards humanity!”
