COVID2.O: Over 150 cases in Zaloni Tea Estate in Assam; Declared Containment Zone

GUWAHATI: With over 150 Covid19 positive cases being detected amongst the workers, the Zaloni tea estate in Dibrugarh has been declared as a containment zone and shut down on Thursday.

This was the second tea estate in the state to be declared as containment zone within the last three days.

On Tuesday, Nilpur tea estate located in Sadharu Guri area in Biswanath district was declared a containment zone after the detection of some 24 Covid 19 positive cases amongst the workers of the tea garden.

“Unauthorized individual and vehicle within the notified area are also prohibited with immediate effect till the area is declared safe,” said the Dibrugarh district administration.

Sources said that the garden hospital and the two vacant staff quarters have been turned into temporary isolation centers for the positive patients.

Earlier, the state’s health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also said that the state government has been mulling the idea of creating micro containment zones as the situation in the state was alarming.

Meanwhile, some 60 positive cases have been reportedly detected in Dibrugarh’s Mayajan tea estate also.

Assam on Thursday recorded 4,936 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the active cases’ count to 31,829. The positivity rate is 8.04%.

A total of 46 people have succumbed to COVID-19 fatalities taking the death count to 1,531 with a death rate of 0.55%.

The overall caseload of the state has touched 2,77,687.
