Guwahati: Amidst a major crackdown against the Popular Front of India (PFI) across the country, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out search operations at multiple locations in Assam since Wednesday.

According to reports, the sleuths of the NIA and ED conducted a raid at the office of the PFI at Guwahati’s Hatigaon office and detained PFI leader Aminul Haque from the Sijubari area at around 3 am.

The Central Counter Terrorism Law Enforcement Agency has also detained four more PFI members from Nagarbera under the Kamrup district.

The arrested persons were identified as Rabiul Hussain, Hafiz Rafiqul Islam, Bashir Ahmed and Nazrul Islam Bhuyan.

Rabiul Hussain is the state general secretary of the PFI.

So far more than 100 PFI leaders and members have been detained from different parts of the country for their alleged involvement in terror funding, organizing training camps, and radicalizing people to join the proscribed organizations, informed sources.

It is also learned that search operations at the residence of PFI national president OMA Abdul Salam is on at his residence in Kerala since midnight

Notably, the NIA and ED are conducting raids at the houses of PFI leaders, including the home of OMA Salam, PFI chairman in Manjeri, Malappuram district, and at PFI offices in Kerela since last midnight.

Update: Another PFI leader namely Farhad Ali Ahmed was detained by Dispur police a few minutes ago.
