Assam’s young cricketer and Rajasthan Royals’ new hero Riyan Parag, who grabbed the headlines through his performance in the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL), on May 6th, 2019 returned to the homeland. He landed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport at around 9 pm.

The new hero in the sports field, after sprinter Hima Das, brought laurel to the state through his consistent impressive performance in the IPL season. He was received by his family members, relatives and fans at the airport.

“I went to have an experience. But, they offered me a chance to play on the team. I am happy that I contributed to the team. Now, it is time to get ready for the upcoming domestic season,” Riyan told reporters. He further said, “I have a dream to play in the senior Indian cricket team in future.”

Riyan Parag grabbed the eyes of the people of Assam following a photograph, which went viral on social media, of the cricketer donning the ‘Axomiya Gamusa’ style handkerchief tucked in his trousers during the IPL match on April 20th, 2019.

On April 22nd, 2019, the 17-year-old cricketer celebrated his first wicket in the IPL against Mumbai Indians in Jaipur by adding a flavour of Bihu on the field.

Parag on May 4th, 2019, maintaining his consistency in his performance in the IPL became the youngest player to score a half-century. He achieved this feat against Delhi Capitals in a match in New Delhi.
