The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Meghalaya has recommended re-polling at Konarchar polling station under Selsella constituency to the Election Commission.

“Perhaps because of simultaneous polls (Lok Sabha and by-polls), there was a human error, a mismatch of figures and crisscrossing of machines,” said F R Kharkongor, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Meghalaya. He said that the EC’s instructions are still awaited.

“Electorate falling under Konarchar polling booth cast their votes in the voting machine meant for Lok Sabha poll instead of Assembly by-poll,” added Kharkongor. Konarchar polling booth has a total of 712 voters.

The Lok Sabha election on two seats in Meghalaya was held on April 11th, 2019. The result will be announced on May 23. The female voters turn out was higher than the male voters while the final voting percentage was recorded at 71.37 per cent.
