GUWAHATI: A 24-year-old CRPF jawan from Dhemaji district in Assam, Mrityunjoy Chetia, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday after being wounded in a grenade attack by militants in Ganderbal in Jammu and Kashmir.
He hailed from Gelowa village of Dhemaji and was serving as a constable in 115 Battalion of CRPF.
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday expressed his deep condolence on the demise of Chetia and extended support to the bereaved family.
CPRF in a tweet said, “We salute the valour & steadfast devotion to duty of CT/GD Mritunjoy Chetia of #115Bn #CRPF who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. He had suffered grievous injuries in yesterday’s grenade attack by terrorists in Ganderbal, J&K. We stand with the family of our Braveheart.”
At least three CRPF jawan were injured when militants lobbed grenades at a CRPF party at Tawheed Chowk in the Dudderhama area of Ganderbal on Wednesday.
