CWG 2022: Manipur’s Shushila Devi clinches silver in judo, wins 7th medal for India

Guwahati: Indian judoka Shushila Devi Likmabam from Manipur bagged silver in the judo women’s 48kg event, giving India its seventh medal of the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Monday.

Shushila lost to Michaela in 4 minutes and 25 seconds in the final at Coventry Arena.

Earlier in the day, Shushila had defeated Harriet Bonface in the quarterfinal and added a second victory by beating Priscilla Morand of Mauritius in the semis to assure herself a medal.

Sushila was in for a gold finish, but she lost to South Africa’s Michaela Whitebooi.

Whitebooi won in a close match, defeating Shushila in the golden score period.

This is her second medal in CWG. Her previous medal had come in 2014 in Glasgow.

Last year, Devi represented India at the Tokyo Olympics, would be slightly disappointed with the result as one minor error cost her the match.

Shushila would hold her head high knowing she’s returning home with a second CWG medal – separated by eight years.
