As many as 38 religious pilgrims from Assam are stuck in Odhisa due to a severe storm. The tourists are staying at Assam House in Odisha. As per reports, the tourists have been asked to vacate the Assam House on May 2nd, 2019 by 12 pm.

The Odisha government advised tourists to leave the seaside pilgrim town of Puri in view of the extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ moving closer to Odisha coast. The authorities in Odisha has requested for additional teams and helicopters to assist them in evacuating people who will be affected. Cyclone Fani may hit Odisha at 205 Km/Hr.

Cyclone Fani, India’s strongest summertime cyclone in the last 43 years, is likely to hit the Odisha coast by Friday afternoon and also affect West Bengal and the Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts of Andhra Pradesh.

The Election Commission of India relaxed the Model Code of Conduct in 11 districts of Odisha to facilitate relief and rescue operations.
