Sankardev-remark row | Darang police nabs Satinath Barale in Kolkata

Guwahati, October 11: Darang police arrested former Patanjali official Satinath Barale from Kolkata today, 13 days after his alleged derogatory remarks against Srimanta Sankardev during a yoga camp at Duni here.

Along with four complaints in Darang district and three in neighbouring Mangaldai district, people of several places of Assam had complained and launched protests after Barale, who was here to organise a yoga camp on behalf of Patanjali, had allegedly said on September 28 that Sirmanta Sankardev isn’t a saint and there is nothing spiritual about the Namghar’s in Assam.

“Based on the FIRs, we have registered a case against Barale and booked hoim under various sections of IPC. The police have also taken statements of 12 witnesses. A team of Darang police was sent to Kolkata and today, he was nabbed. Earlier, another Prahlad Das has also been arrested in this regard,” Darang police today told media.

After the Kolkata Chief Judiciary Magistrate issues the Transit Remand, Barale will be brought back to Darang for questioning.
