Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia on September 30th, 2019 took to Facebook to highlight the poor road conditions in Sonari. Saikia also extended an invitation to Sonowal to visit Sonari to get a first-hand experience of the dilapidated roads.
Saikia asked Sonowal to travel from Sonari to Guwahati via car to find out the “real picture of development”. “On behalf of all the people of Sonari, I would like to invite the Chief Minister to travel to Guwahati from Sonari via Dhodar Ali by car. It is only then he will get a first-hand account of the real road conditions of Dhodar Ali-Namti-Amguri,” Saikia wrote on Facebook in Assamese.

He added, “Time and again, I have tried to bring the horrible condition of the roads connecting Dhodar Ali-Namti-Amguri-Guwahati to the notice of the Chief Minister. I would request him (Sonowal) to visit the roads to witness development and parivartan (change) in the state.”
Assam Congress president and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora had earlier written to Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari seeking immediate repair of the National Highway-15 and National Highway-37 in Assam. Bora too invited Shah to personally inspect the National Highways to see the horrible condition of the two roads.
