Guwahati: The number of death, due to flash flood, reached 13 in Assam as upper Assam’s Sivasagar district administration recovered two bodies in the last 24 hours from two different locations of the district in the second wave of the disaster.
In the first wave of the flood, 11 persons from different flood hit districts of the state lost their lives.
Sivasagar district deputy commissioner Lakhinandan Gogoi said, “Two bodies, suspected of drowning, were recovered from two different locations – one under Bihubor police station and the other from a rivulet located under Cherakapar police outpost of the district, on June 22. The bodies were identified of Late Sunil Nath and Late Ratul Karmakar and were sent for a post-mortem on Tuesday.”
Till Tuesday, the second wave of the flood has affected 36707 people in four districts – Dhemaji, Jorhat, Sivasagar and Dibrugarh. Altogether, 1071 persons have been accommodated in 37 different relief camps.
According to the Central Water Commission bulletin, issued on Tuesday morning, the river Brahmaputra at Neematighat in Jorhat and Dhubri, Dikhow and Disang in Sivasagar, Dhansiri in Golaghat and Jia Bharali in Sonitpur were flowing above the danger level.
