Guwahati: Assam opposition leader Debabrata Saikia has launched a stinging attack on Union home minister Amit Shah after he slammed the Congress party by saying that the party will have no existence in the long run.
Amit Shah made this remark during his recent visit to Assam, where he addressed a BJP meeting in Amingaon.
Coming down heavily on Shah, Saikia said “What is Amit Shah’s importance? And what have they contributed towards Assam except for fulfilling the selfish needs of the corporates?”
Leader Debabrata Saikia, lambasting the BJP leader for his remarks towards the Congress party, said “Shah said that people won’t achieve anything through agitations. But the Sariaghat Bridge, Guwahati refinery, everything have been possible because of the people of Assam who raised their voices.”
“It is also shameful that even after insulting the sacrifice of the martyrs of Assam during his address, our Assamese leaders including chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal kept mum and supported the saffron leader,” Saikia further added.
Shah, in an apparent attack on ‘CAA’ agitators, said that ‘andolan’ did not give anything to Assam. “What did these agitations give Assam? Was there any development? Did people get employment? Did anyone get health infrastructure? All that happened from these movements is that youths were gunned down,” Shah asked, taking jibes at the leaders of the agitation.
On the other hand, Asom Jatiya Parisad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi has also took aim at Shah for his apparent slight towards the martyrs of the anti-citizenship Amendment Act movement in Assam.
The AJP leader slammed Shah for ‘ignoring’ the implementation of the Sixth Schedule of the Assam Accord.
Shah, during the public rally, had attacked the leaders of the movements and accused them of misleading the ‘youths’.
The BJP leader yesterday while delivering his speech, had launched a scorching attack on the ‘elements’ which are trying to foment rebellion in Assam once again. “Some of those that led the protests are now entering politics. They can never form the Government. All they are trying to do is divert votes towards the Congress party,” shah accosted taking aim at the regional leaders who have formed parties to contest polls.
