    Debabrata Saikia Urges CM To Take Steps On Alleged Encroachers From Nagaland

    It has been alleged that some persons from Nagaland have encroached almost 4000 hectares of land in Nazira’s Geleki Reserve Forest

    Leader of Opposition at the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia has urged the Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal to take Steps to provide security for the residents of Nazira from alleged encroachers from Nagaland side.

    Debabrata Saikia said that it was seen that “miscreants from Nagaland” have encroached almost 4000 hectares of land in Nazira’s Geleki Reserve Forest and in addition to that almost 2000 tea plants by a local Assamese youth was cut off by such persons from Nagaland on May 21. However, the suspected encroachers were chased off by the Assam Police team but it cannot be denied that “miscreants” from Nagaland frequently enter Assam and try to encroach into the land in Assam side.

    He added that Nazira shares at least 35 kilometres of land border with Nagaland and so the residents of the area need to ensure of security from such encroachers.

    Saikia asked the CM to set up the proposed border outposts in the area as soon as possible and also make arrangements for more frequent police patrolling in the border as well as increase the number of police personnel in the area.

    He also asked the CM to appoint a magistrate for the border area so that strict actions can be taken against encroachers which over the days the police and other officials have failed to. Apart from this, Saikia urged the CM to provide some for funds for the region so that developmental work related to the roads and other infrastructure can be improved
