Democracy Is In Danger Under Modi’s Rule: Tarun Gogoi

For Himanta, no one understands the Citizenship Amendment Act except him: Tarun Gogoi

Former Assam Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Tarun Gogoi on January 20th, 2020, said that democracy is in danger under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Accusing the state Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over the Citizenship Amendment Act issue, Gogoi said, “He is striving to confuse people to foil the movement against the Citizenship Amendment Act. He pretends like he knows everything.” “For Himanta, no one understands the act except him,” Gogoi added.

Besides, Gogoi said, “In 2013, Himanta had filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court where he urged to update the National Register of Citizens on the basis of historic Assam Accord. He was then minister of department of implementation of Assam Accord. Now, he is nullifying the Accord.”

Talking about the formation of the new political party in the state, Gogoi on January 16th, 2020, said the government cannot be formed in the state in 2021 without the Congress’ support. “We would welcome if a new political party is formed. We will fight together against the Bharatiya Janata Party in the next Assembly election,” he added.
