GUWAHATI: The residents of western Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, located along the Indo-China border, have been scared due to the recent detection of a number of personnel of the Indian Army and General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) positive for Covid-19.
In view of the outbreak, the Tawang district administration on Friday convened an urgent meeting in the deputy commissioner’s conference hall in presence of representatives from the Indian Army, SSB, ITBP, SIB, SB, GREF, public leaders from Jang and student union leaders.
Addressing the meeting, Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi said, “Many of the villagers work under GREF as laborers and we are interdependent, we live as a family with the Indian Army and all other forces stationed here in Tawang. It is very important for all of us to work together to fight this virus. It becomes serious matter of concern for all of us, if a single member of any organization is infected with this virus.”
Stressing the urgency to follow the SOP issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from time to time to contain this virus, Tashi said, “We all have to be very serious and alert.”
The MLA also put his request to the India Army, Paramilitary and GREF to strictly follow the SOP issued by the health department and adhere to 28 days strict quarantine as extra measure to check any possibility of Covid 19 positive case.
He also requested the GREF authority not to curtail the wages of those laborers who have been home quarantined by administration due to their coming in contact with the Covid-19 positive patients.
