Dhubri based publisher claims Assam has 12 types of Bihu

Guwahati, May 18: At a time when various organizations have been raising voice towards preservation of Assamese culture, a shocking incident has come to light from Dhubri where a recently published grammar and essay book in the district read that Assam has 12 different types of Bihu and that Bihu is celebrated at every month’s end.

The book further stated that although there are 12 different types of Bihu, only three are celebrated and further gave a brief on the celebration of Bihu.

The astonishing facts published in the book on the state festival has left the people thunderstruck creating a sensation in the district.

The grammar and essay book has been informed to be the second edition published under New Mohammadiya Pustakalaya press Dhubri written by two authors identified as Mohammad E Ali and Bhuyan and Mulla written for the 6th, 7th and 8th-grade students.

Following the recognition of the books, a group of the concerned citizens have condemned the press for printing misleading facts on Assamese culture and demanded an investigation suspecting a conspiracy behind it.

Speaking on this one of the locals stated that the books have misleading and false facts and should not be added to the school curriculum for it would just be a confusion for the upcoming generation.
