Guwahati: Assam Govt hands over ex-gratia cheques to kin of two deceased
The Assam Government on Sunday handed over the ex-gratia cheques of Rs. 5 lakh to the kin of the two deceased Sanjit Singh and Surajit Talukdar, who died in the grenade blast incident at Tingrai Bazar in Digboi on May 14.
Union Minister of State for Food Processing, Rameswar Teli, State Cabinet Minister Sanjay Kisan and Digboi MLA Suren Phukan handed over the cheques on behalf of the Government of Assam.
It may be mentioned that a suspected grenade blast incident was reported from Tingrai bazar area in Digboi under Tinsukia district on last Friday afternoon.
As per eye-witnesses, two motorcycle-borne miscreants threw the grenade in front of a hardware shop owned by a person named Puranmal Agarwal.
Sandeep Singh (customer) reportedly died in the blast incident and three others received severe injuries. All the injured persons were immediately shifted to Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) for better treatment.
Later, Surajit Talukdar succumbed to his injuries at the Assam Medical College Hospital in the evening hours.
The other injured persons were identified as Manjit Das and Ghanshyam Agarwal, informed sources.
Following the incident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also visited the spot-on May 15 and took stock of the situation.
Meanwhile, Tinsukia police on Saturday evening had sought public’s support in cracking the case.
The police also announced a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh to informer who will provide concrete information about the bike borne miscreants involved in the grenade blast incident.
Police also issued a photograph of the two suspects on their Twitter handle.
