Doctor, attendant stabbed in Sikkim hospital, one arrested

Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a doctor and a sanitary attendant were stabbed by a random person in STNM hospital in Sikkim’s Gangtok on Tuesday.

The doctor has been identified as Dr Sanjay Upreti from the Cardiology department. Upreti was admitted in STNM under serious condition.

Reportedly, the accused was carrying a knife and started hurling at the doctor. Hearing the commotion, the attendant rushed to safeguard the doctor following which he was also injured.

The assailant has been identified as Tshering Bhutia (42), a resident of Tathangchen. He was arrested by Sikkim Police in connection with the case.

However, the motive behind the attack has not been ascertained. It is believed that the accused must have been a patient earlier or relative of a patient.

An investigation has been launched to get to the bottom of the case.
