Domino’s India promises free lifetime pizza supply to Mirabai Chanu

The 26-year-old weightlifter underwent rigorous training for the Olympics for years which also included giving up her favourite food.

Guwahati: Mirabai couldn’t stop smiling as she savoured the moment after winning the country’s first Olympic medal. A tight hug with the instructor was followed by a little dance before she was crowned on the podium.

The Manipur champion lifter later admitted that she has regulated her diet significantly in recent years, especially after a disastrous 2016 Rio Olympics campaign in which she failed to register a single legal lift.

Mirabai indicated that she will treat herself to ‘pizza’ to commemorate this historic victory.

“The first thing I’m going to do is order a pizza. I enjoy pizza and haven’t had one in a long time,” according to NDTV, Chanu said.

Domino’s was quick to reply on Mirabai’s wish to have a pizza. Firstly, Domino’s congratulated the weightlifter on her win, then made promised to treat her with free pizza for lifetime.

Domino’s tweeted, “Congratulations on bringing the medal home! You brought the dreams of a billion+ Indians to life and we couldn’t be happier to treat you to FREE Domino’s pizza for life. Congratulations again!!”

Following Mirabai’s wish, Pratik Pota, CEO of Jubilant Foodworks Limited tweeted saying that Domino’s Imphal visited Mirabai’s house to congratulate her family with none other than Domino’s Pizza.

Chanu won a silver in the 49-kg women’s weightlifting category in Tokyo Games marking an end to India’s nearly two decade long wait to win a medal win in the category.

It needs mention here that India has sent its largest-ever continent to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics that commenced on 23 July.
