Guwahati: Fans doing unreal things for their celebrities is common. And this time it’s Rahul Rai from Guwahati’s Shantipur who has come to limelight by doing one of such things to meet Indian cricket star Virat Kohli while he was here to play the second T20 match at Barsapara cricket ground against South Africa.

But Rai did not succeed in the first attempt. First he made a futile attempt to meet Kohli at the Lokopirya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport in Borjhar when the Indian cricket team landed on Thursday evening. Waiting at the departure for hours, Rai could not meet Kohli.

Then he tried to catch his ‘cricket god’ at the Barsapara stadium during a training session before the match day. But due to security reasons he once again failed to fulfill his dream.

Desperate to meet Kohli, Rai then decided to book a room at the five star hotel here which cost him some Rs 23,000.

He eventually met his idol Kohli near the breakfast area of the hotel. Not only he managed to grab a quick selfie with Kohli, he was thrilled when he was successful in even making a conversation with the cricketer.

“When I told him that I am his big fan and want to gift him a framed collage of Fan Page on Instagram that I created in his name and have one lakh followers, he told me that he can’t take it due to security reason but returned it with his autograph. We also clicked a selfie,” Rai told media.

On Sunday, with unbeaten 49 runs, Kohli not only gave a puja gift to Rai but to some 30,000 spectators at the Barsapara cricket stadium, he also became the first Indian player to score 11,000 T20 runs. Fans seen cheering and screaming his name repeatedly at the ground.

India also sealed the T20 series with South Africa in Guwahati by taking a 2-0 lead. The cricket teams left Guwahati on Monday.
