Guwahati: With heavy rain showers amid Durga Puja festivities, Guwahatians woke up to cloudier skies as the minimum temperature settled at 24.5 ° Celsius on Monday morning.
For the last couple of weeks, the residents in Guwahati were struggling to cope with a relentless heatwave, with temperatures reaching record highs.
But more or less, the fresh spells of a thundershower in the morning hours also resulted in water logging and a flood-like situation in Nabin Nagar, Gandhi Basti, Hatigaon, Sijubari, Chandmari, Beltola Chariali and Zoo Road areas in Guwahati.
On the eve of the 2nd T20I match between India and South Africa Sunday, social media was rife with people requesting all to pray to Goddess Durga for a rain-free Sunday.
Earlier, the Regional Meteorological Department (RMC) also predicted that the city will witness a partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershower on the day of the high-octane T20 international cricket match between India and South Africa at the Barsapara stadium.
According to RMC, Isolated/scattered rainfall is very likely to continue in almost all the districts of Assam during the four days of Durga Puja.
