Guwahati: In a major annoucement by the Assam Government has mandatorily asked all the devotees to receive at least one jab of the COVID-19 vaccine ahead of the Durga Puja this year.
The government has, however, prioritized receiving full-dose vaccination, as there are no more shortages of vaccines in Assam.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said, “Along with the Durga Puja organizing committee, all the worshipers and visitors should receive at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. However, exemptions shall be provided to minors i.e. under 18 years of age. The organizing committees will have to attach their vaccination certificates while seeking permission from the District administration to conduct Durga puja at their respective areas. Each district administration shall have to conduct meetings with Puja committee members in their respective districts in advance and inform them about the COVID-19 protocols related to Durga Puja,” said Keshab Mahanta.
Wearing of masks has been made compulsory for all, hand sanitisers have to be provided at the entrance of the shrine/place of worship, stated the minister.
“The place of worship /Puja mandap should be well sanitized twice a day by the organizer before the entry of the visitors and after the closing of the entry of the night visitors,” added Mahanta.
The Health Minister also called upon the puja organising committee to take steps to ensure that visitors do not flock to the puja mandaps.
All kinds of cultural programs or events during Durga Puja 2021 has been cancelled by the Assam Government.
Health Minister Keshab Mahanta further mentioned that all the puja organising committees shall have to keep a track of the stipulated night curfew timings to avoid any kind of gatherings at the mandaps/place of worship.
