Guwahati: The Election Commission of India (ECI) strictly banned any exit poll and publishing or publicizing by means of the print or electronic media or dissemination in any other manner whatsoever, the result of any exit poll in connection with the General Election to the Assam Legislative Assembly-2021 from the period between 7.00 am on March 27 to 7.30 pm on April 29, 2021.
ECI has further prohibited the display of any election matter including results of any opinion poll or any other survey, in any electronic media, during the period of 48 hours ending with the hours fixed for conclusion of poll in the respective polling areas in connection with General Election to the Assam Legislative Assembly-2021.
Altogether 946 candidates were in the fray for the election to the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly this year.
Around 264 candidates contested in 47 constituencies which went to polls in the first phase.
For 39 seats in the second phase, 345 contestants were on the fray, while 337 tried their luck in 40 constituencies during the third phase of voting on last Tuesday.
Notably, there are around 2,33,74,087 electors across the 126 constituencies in the state. Of these, 1,18,23,286 are males and 1,15,50,403 are females, while 398 are transgenders.
