Guwahati, March 3, 2019
The Election Commission of India will announce the Lok Sabha Elections schedule on Saturday (March 9th, 2019), as per reports.
After the Pulwama terrorist attack, there were reports circulating that the General elections might be postponed but on the last week, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora had rubbished all the rumours and said that general elections in the country will be held on time.
He had also said that as per a new notification of the commission, candidates will have to give details of their properties abroad, besides those in the country. “The I-T department will look into it and, if any, discrepancies are found then it will be uploaded on the Election Commission (EC) website and strict action will be initiated,” the CEC had said.
It may be mentioned, in all the 1,63,331 polling centres across the country, VVPAT machines will be used this time.
VVPAT device is a printer attached to the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM). The VVPAT devices dispense a slip with the name and symbol of the party candidate for which a person has voted, thus enabling verification of the voting process. VVPAT slips will be counted along with the votes punched into the EVM.
