Guwahati: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will hold a meeting in the nation capital to finalise the schedule for Assembly Election which is scheduled in five states.
The terms of the legislative assemblies of five poll bound states – Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry will come to an end either in May or in June this year.
On Friday, Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain, who is also the in-charge, will be travelling to Kolkata to take note of the preparedness and updates.
Top officials from the EC will also visit Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala to review the poll-preparedness situation. However, the stock of the states Assam and West Bengal have already been taken.
Reportedly, West Bengal may see assembly election spreading to over six to eight phases while Assam is likely to vote in two or three phases. Votes will be counted on the same day in all these states.
The numbers of polling booths are likely to increase owing to the current pandemic situation.
