GUWAHATI: Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the elementary schools in the state from January 1, 2021. The schools were closed following the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Sarma informing the development said that the decision was taken after holding various discussions with the Prathamik Sikshak Sanmilani (Primary teachers association).
He said that fresh guidelines regarding the classes will be notified shortly.
As per a recent order of the education department, the college hostels in the state will reopen from December 15 with a set of limitations. The final year students will be allowed to come back to their hostels.
All the hostel boarders will under COVID tests, the minister said. Instructions have been issued to the college principals and administration for the cleaning of the hostels already.
Sarma also hinted that a vaccine of the coronavirus would not be available before April next year. However, he claimed that the situation in Assam has been improving. “The temporary COVID care centres have been closed and from now onwards, the COVID positive patients will only be treated in the hospitals,” he added.
Assam’s COVID tally reached 2, 12,617 with 3350 active cases till Monday night.
