Dibrugarh: Other than fighting against Covid-19 and artificial flood, the Dibrugah Police has some other responsibilities, specially, in connection with the law and order, since, this is the home town of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. With limited forces Dibrugarh Police is busy in protecting VVIPS and the commoners from dawn to dusk leaving no rooms for personal life and enjoyment.
However, amidst such a hectic schedule, Dibrugarh Police has, just, shown that they too have a heart and compassion for innocent animals that is, silently treasured behind their Khaki Uniform.
A video clipping showing inhuman brutality went viral in face book and other social media on Thursday, where a dead body of a dog was seen being dragged upon on a road by a pillion rider, on the Dibrugarh – Tinsukia National Highway No 37.
The whole incident was recorded on camera, by a passenger vehicle following the scooty, towing animal on road.
Immediately after the incident triggered questions of animal cruelty and human atrocity, Dibrugarh Police swung into action and within 48 hours detained, accused person namely Tarifuddin Ahmed, from Chaulkhowa on Saturday, and sized the two wheeler bearing the number AS-04 R-3692 used for tugging the animal.
It can be mentioned that, such of an act, is a gross violation of the provisions of “Transportation of Animals Rules 1978”, and “Prevention of Cruelty to the Animals Act 1960”.
Noted animal right activist, Vedanta Gogoi, sincerely appreciated the effort of Amirun Nisha for exposing this cruelty through social media, and urged Dibrugarh Police, to ensure her total security from any future threat.
Vineet Bagaria, spearheading an NGO, “Animal Welfare People”, in Upper Assam, appreciated the “suo moto” action of Dibrugarh SP, Sreejith Thiraviam, and entire police team for giving justice to the speechless innocent soul and also prompt action for detaining culprit.
