Ex-cop in Meghalaya gets life imprisonment for raping two minors in 2013
Guwahati: A POSCO court in Meghalaya has sentenced life imprisonment to a former police officer for raping and threatening two minor sisters in 2013.
The court on Monday awarded life in jail to accused Nurul Islam with a fine of Rs 8 lakh to be paid to the victims. He was earlier convicted by the POSCO court last week.
Nurul Islam was found guilty and convicted for committing offences defined and punishable under POCSO Act, 2012 and also IPC Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court had said on Thursday.
The accused, former police official Nurul Islam was the officer-in-charge of Ampati police station in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district when he committed the crime.
Islam raped a 14-year-old- girl at the Ampati police station on March 13, and also on March 14, 2013. On March 31 the same year, he raped her 17-year-old elder sister too at gunpoint, following which the father of the victims filed an FIR against the officer in charge.
