Guwahati, October 12: Supari or contract killers were hired to kill Junu Sarmah, deputy manager of the State Bank of India Dadara branch.
Junu was shot dead by an unidentified motorbike-borne assailant at Agyathuri area in Kamrup district near Guwahati on Tuesday evening. Police said that a man on a motorbike, wearing a helmet and covering his face, broke the window pane of the car and shot at her neck from a close range, killing her on the spot. Though her driver rushed her to a nearby hospital, Junu was declared brought dead.
As per inputs available with TIME8, Junu was investigating a multi-crore scam of the bank. As per reports, bank officials and money lending mafias were part of the “killing scheme”.
It may be mentioned that Assam Director General of Police, Kuladhar Saikia had stated that the killing of Junu was a pre-planned murder.
Addressing the media here on Wednesday, Saikia said, “Detection of any financial anomalies or scam in the bank might be the reason behind the killing. The employees of the bank and the driver are being interrogated.”
Pradip Kumar Sarma, branch manager of SBI Nalbari and husband of the deceased, had also expressed apprehension that the branch employees of the bank are possibly behind the shootout.
