Aizwal, July 21: In an allegation by a tribal woman (32) (name withheld), a brutal incident has come into light from Mizoram. Sources informed that a tribal lady was brutally gang raped by two people at around 1pm on July 16. It is to be noted that the lady was from Silsury village under Mamit District and had gone for ‘Jhum Cultivation’ in the forest area along with another lady (53) (name not known) where the incident took place. The region shares border with neighboring country Bangladesh.

Sources, further informed that the villagers in their statement said that they saw a lady lying unconscious in the road and accordingly, the villagers bought her to the village. Later, the victim stated to the police that she along with other lady had gone for collecting ‘Bamboo shoot’. She had no idea about the whereabouts of the other lady, as she got unconscious, however, she mentioned how she was molested and raped by two persons who had beard on their faces, wore uniforms and was speaking in Bengali.

Talking to Time8, highly-placed sources said, “When the issue came up, the villagers informed the matter to the police, accordingly, a lady officer (SDPO) of West Phaileng under Police station Marpara came up for investigating the matter, later, a FIR was lodged and police is investigating the matter. Till now, police haven’t been able to trace the accused, but the matter of concern is that the other lady (53) is still missing,” adding, “BSF company commander met the people of that area and provided all necessary help to the people, moreover, there is huge communication problem in that area, however, I was informed that the victim had a burn injury on her face and she was not in the right frame of mind when the statements were recorded by the police, but from her initial statements it is suspected that BSF personnel might be involved, however, the matter is yet to be ascertained.”

Highly placed police sources, added, “The FIR has been registered under section 34A, under section 326A, under section 376D, under section 376(2) M.”

“After her statements were recorded, she was taken to the hospital in South Phuldungsei area for initial treatment as she had burn injuries on her face, but it is yet not known to us, whether she was attacked with an acid or not, however, she mentioned in her statement about the accused being Bengali speaking, so as per information, BSF is coordinating with the Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB) as well, as they too have beard on their face and they are officially Bengali speaking and the area is just 1 km away from Bangladesh, so we cannot rule out the fact the lady is missing and we also suspect that she might have been kidnapped,” added the source.

Sources further informed about two camps who are camping for BSF and they are from a Construction Company working in the border areas. Basically, they are laborers who are here for constructing the border-fencing area; it is told that BSF is also suspecting that the laborers might be involved in the incident.

On the other hand, talking to Time8, Additional Superintendent of Police, Mamit district, B Laldikpuia, said, “As per the victim’s statement, there is an involvement of BSF in the matter, but, it is not sure as of now, moreover, one of the lady is missing from the spot. Apart from this, the road condition is very poor and even police has to avail a boat to move to the region Silsury, also the condition of the mobile network is also pathetic. Presently, the victim has been shifted to Aizwal Civil Hospital for better treatment, earlier, she was first hospitalised in Phuldungsei Community Health Centre for initial treatment, later, her relative took her to Aizwal. We are yet to receive the medical report.”
