Guwahati: An expelled leader of the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) was arrested by Nagaon police on Tuesday for carrying an unlicensed firearm inside the premises of the Nagaon Superintendent of Police office.
The expelled AAMSU leader identified as Kamruz Jaman Sarkar allegedly entered the office building with a firearm, said the Superintendent of Police (SP) Nagaon, Leena Doley told the media.
The police had seized a .32 bore pistol along with 6 rounds of .32 mm ammunition, two mobile phones and an Innova car from his possession.
“Kamruz is one of the most wanted criminals as per police record. There are several cases registered against Kamruz at various police stations in Nagaon and Hojai districts. He was involved in various illegal activities like extortion, robbery and land grabbing cases in the district earlier. Our investigation, in this case, is on; we are trying to find out how many such cases are registered against him,” SP Leena Doley said.
Meanwhile, Kamruz has been arrested for illegal possession of arms under the Arms Act, informed the the SP further.
