Face recognition tool helps missing Assam girl to unite with family

Guwahati/Hyderabad, December 17: A missing Assam girl successfully reunited with her family with the help of a facial recognition tool developed by the Telangana police.

Anjali Tigga hails from Lakhimpur. Last year, she had gone to Delhi in search of employment. However, she returned back to Assam in September without informing her parents and started working in Sonitpur.

In the meantime, a missing complaint was filed by the girl’s family with the police in August last year following which a search operation was launched.

Anjali who was spotted wandering in the streets of Tezpur by the Railway police was admitted to a shelter home.

With the help of face recognition software Darpan, Anjali was traced to the Children’s Home in Sonitpur. The police, accordingly, approached her parents and informed them of Anjali’s whereabouts and got the girl reunited with her family.

It may be mentioned that Darpan maintains a database of children and persons lodged at various rescue homes across the country and match photos of those missing with those lodged at the homes.
