    Fake Ulfa-I Cadres Held In Charaideo, Extortion Bid Foiled

    The police seized three cell phones and SIM cards from their possession

    Two fake United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) cadres were arrested on August 17th, 2019 by Charaideo Police in Upper Assam. They have been identified Bitupan Baruah (40), a resident of Changmai Gaon, Borhat and Arup Chetia (31), a resident of Saffry Rangapathar Gaon, Sonari. Baruah is a surrendered member of the banned militant outfit.

    According to the police, they were involved in extortion in the name of the banned outfit. The police seized three cell phones and SIM cards from their possession.

    Charaideo Police informed that the duo made an extortion demand to one Borhat-based Bengali businessman in the name of Ulfa-I leader Ganesh Lahon. A case was registered at Borhat Police Station under section 387 of the IPC, R/W Sec. 10/13 UA(P) Act.

    Based on the complaint, the Cyber Cell of Charaideo Police led by Tridip Kumbang, SDPO Sonari swung into action and a Special Operation Team (SOT) led by Additional Superintendent of Police Mrinal Deka worked upon leads with the use of intelligence inputs and apprehended the two persons.
