Guwahati: Alike other parts of the nation, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Saturday evening observed the ‘Kisan Vijay Diwas’ to recognise the struggle of farmers for the repeal of the three Central farm laws.

Alleging that over 700 farmers have lost their lives, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) held candle marches to pray for the departed souls.

Notably, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) earlier in an official statement had welcomed the decision of the BJP-led central government and termed it is as a “victory of the farmers.”

“The victory is dedicated to all the Annadatas of our country, in recognition of their consistent and spirited fight against the flawed decisions of the tyrannical government and will be observed by the Indian National Congress as `Kisan Vijay Diwas`, on November 20, 2021,” read the statement.

This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced repealing of the three controversial agricultural laws that were passed in Parliament in September last year.

PM Modi also apologised, stating the administration “failed to persuade a section of farmers” about farm laws, adding, that the three contentious laws will be repealed during this month’s Parliament session.

Further, the prime minister urged the farmers to return home to their families and begin fresh.
