Guwahati: Farmers union leaders on Monday announced nationwide road blockade on state and national highways for three hours on February 6, 2021.

Addressing a press conference, farmer union leaders said that highways and roads would be blocked between 12 noon and 3 pm on Saturday, February 6. All major routes are expected to be blocked not just in the national capital but across the country.

The Farmers union declared the chakka bandh to protests against the suspension on internet and heavy barricading at agitation spots and to push for their demands on the repeal of three farm laws passed by the Centre in  September last year.

The protesting kisan unions called the mega rally on Saturday, as well as, in response to Monday’s Budget 2021 that ‘ignored’ the demands of farmers and water power supply have been curtailed at their protest venues.

The Delhi Police has beefed up security, deployed additional forces at borders, studded iron nails on the road and built walls for barricading as farmers try to enter the national capital.

The call for the nationwide ‘Chakka Jam’ comes a week after the tractor rally by the protesting farmers in Delhi turned ugly, with clashes breaking out between the farmers and the police in many areas of the National Capital.
